49Komma8 is building a 120 megawatt-hour battery park in Bonaduz, Switzerland

Switzerland's largest battery storage facility will go into operation in Bonaduz, in the canton of Graubünden, in 2027. Developed by 49Komma8 AG, the battery park, with a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 120 megawatt hours (MWh), is an investment by the Avadis Investment Foundation, which is investing in large-scale battery storage for the first time.

49Komma8 AG, a company specializing in the project development and implementation of large-scale battery storage systems, is planning and building a battery park in Bonaduz, in the canton of Graubünden, with a capacity of 60 MW and a storage capacity of 120 MWh. 49Komma8 has successfully secured an investor for "BESS Bonaduz AG," the company founded specifically for this purpose. The Avadis Investment Foundation, managed by Avadis Vorsorge AG, is acquiring all shares of BESS Bonaduz AG as the buyer and developer, and will continue to rely on the expertise of 49Komma8 AG, which is implementing the project.

Christian Dürr, founder and CEO of 49Komma8 AG, explains: “We are proud to have gained such a significant investor for the Bonaduz battery park in the form of the Avadis Investment Foundation. This underlines the possibility that sustainable and attractive returns can be achieved with such forward-looking investments in energy infrastructure.”.

Aquila Capital, an experienced asset manager specializing in clean energy infrastructure based in Hamburg, advised the Avadis Investment Foundation on its investment decision. “We appreciate the professionalism and efficiency with which 49Komma8 AG has developed the Bonaduz battery park to date. Therefore, we are confident that the Swiss battery storage specialist will implement the project with the same precision over the next two years,” says Christian Krebs, Head of Investment Management Clean Energy at Aquila Capital.

The Bonaduz battery park will go into operation in the first half of 2027. At that time, it will be by far the largest battery storage facility in Switzerland. It is being built on a 5,500 square meter industrial site in the immediate vicinity of a substation and an important node in the supra-regional distribution network. This ensures a high-performance connection of the battery park to the Swiss electricity grid.
